HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BAILEY AND AIDEN!!!!!

Today we woke up to a beautiful morning in Kansas. Miss V woke us up with “Good morning lovelies”! We had a wonderful breakfast which included pop tarts and oranges. Everyone slept for the first 2 hours and when we got to Missouri, Kevin had a dad joke ready. Miss V woke us all up when we hit Missouri with a “Caw, baby caw” and notified us of our current state of misery (get it?).

We rolled into our first Missouri Walmart with a whole hour to spend shopping, but unfortunately some campers ran out of money… a couple weeks ago (just kidding!). While in the Walmart, Wriston got every single camper hooked on Mr. Pibb because of its obvious dominance over Coke. We loaded back on the bus and headed towards the Gateway to the West in St. Louis!

As we started to approach the arch, Miss V started to make some crazy sounds which both scared and hyped us up for the amazing sight of the St. Louis Gateway to the West. Exiting the van and bus, the people scared of heights braced to face their worst fear, being 630 feet up in the air and looking down on the ground. However, when we got under the arch, we were welcomed by an informative museum, a gift shop with delicious fudge, and a refreshing food court. Eventually, the time came for us to ride 5 at a time in an egg-shaped elevator to the top and look out on the city of St. Louis, Missouri to the right and the vast state of Illinois to the left. We were also able to see Busch Stadium, home to the St. Louis Cardinals MLB team which was super cool!

After some time, we went back to the bottom and left on the bus to our wonderful campsite at Carlyle Lake where our cooks served us sloppy joes and cupcakes. Gearing up for the 4th of July tomorrow included activities like nail painting from Aiden, Carson, and Jaclyn, and hair straightening from Maggie S. We finished the night with a cookie cake for Aiden and Bailey complimented with some serenading music from Wriston (which was pretty popular with the ladies) Going to sleep, we all are looking forward to the beautiful sights of corn and wheat fields and hoping to see a horse race at Churchill Downs. Happy early 4th of July from the Grumpy’s as we reflect on our rapidly ending TWB trip.

Goodnight everyone, talk again on the 4th and we will see you just a day after that!
