Day 13-Yosemite

Day 13: Yosemite

Hey there! Sneezys here, Rachel Campbell, Grant Riser, Phoebe Clutter, Emelio Saiz, Zachary Lewis, Matthew Robeson, Corbin Barber, Abby Overton, Carly Hegwer, and Ella-Chase Leavitt and we are coming to you from Lee Vining, California in a campground across from gorgeous Lake Mono!

This morning we woke up around 5:20 for another early morning. We left San Francisco around 6:30 with a long road trip ahead of us, but we did not mind because we were heading to YOSEMITE! We had a fantastic gourmet breakfast of pop tarts and bananas which we could decide between strawberry and brown sugar cinnamon! We made our first stop at Wally-World so that the cooks could buy the next few meals. Many made a stop at Starbucks for some pinkity drinkities (for Tripp, Aiden, and Matthew). We spent the next few hours on the bus where many took naps, ate some yummy snacks, and played some fun games on both the bus and van. We then had another wonderful meal of ham and cheese sandwiches with an option of turkey and lettuce as well as some top of the line potato chips! After lunch, we made it to Yosemite and the first place we visited was the Red Wood Forest where we saw trees that were thousands of years old. They were ginormous and very interesting. When we stood next to them, it was so crazy as to how many of us could fit around the base of the tree! After our little walk, we made it back to the bus where we continued to drive through the beautiful national park. We then got to see the dome rock and inspiration point. We then even got to see some snow on the mountain peaks and people daring to climb the rocks! We were again amazed with how vast the national park was. It seemed to go on and on for miles of stunning views, enormous peaks, and numerous scenery changes as we climbed through! On the way back to the camp, those on the bus decided to get into the snacks and eat gummies, sandwiches, and chips, while those on the van ate leftover chips from lunch! After exiting the park, we got to make a pitstop at a local store in Lee Vining, California where participants had the opportunity to buy shirts, stickers, and keepsakes, including very loud hats that the counselors got that were very sparkly and patriotic... we then headed to the campsite and set up our sleeping bags while the cooks were making dinner. Our camp ground was right in town so participants were able to grab some yummy ice cream before dinner while others were playing volleyball and spike ball. The dinner was very good, hand cooked by the Dopeys! We had quesadillas, chips, salsa, veggies, and cookies. After dinner many of us headed off to see the beautiful sunset over the mountains and Lake Mono and take pictures of memories that will last a lifetime. We’re settling in for a cold night and we have an early morning tomorrow heading off to Utah to see the salt flats!

This mornings sleeping beauties!

Day 12-San Francisco

Day 12: San Francisco

Surprise! Sleepys back for one more blog! We started off the day by travelling to the cliff house and the suture baths! While we were here, we traveled down a path for a short and sweet hike to a cave where a tunnel had been built. In the tunnel we could hear the crashing of the waves on the other side of the rocks which was a very cool perspective since we didn’t get wet at all!

After leaving the cliff house and suture baths, we drove by the painted ladies where the show Full House was set which was really cool because we all grew up watching the show! Once we did our drive by of the painted ladies, we made our way to the Fisherman’s Wharf where we took pictures, saw Alcatraz, listened to research by Ellie, Abby, Abby, and Grant, and shopped on Pier 39. After listening to all the great research, shopping, and exploring we all split up and began to see the city. Many of us walked up Lombard Street (what a hike), ate lunch at In-N-Out (10/10), rode the trolley, and tried authentic clam chowder. The possibilities offered in San Francisco are endless! Some of us went to the interesting shops and purchased of variety of things including plushies, merchandise and (fake) katanas (some of us wanted to be awesome ninjas). The whole group met in ChinaTown for an early dinner where we were served a variety of Chinese cuisine and then we were set loose for another hour on our way back to the bus. While walking back, some decided to stop in Italian shops for gelato and ice cream.

At around 6:00 pm we drove over to the Golden Gate Bridge. It took roughly an hour for everyone to complete. The fog was obdurate and caused the view to be lacking. Some people fought their fears while walking on the bridge that is over 200 feet above water, Go us! Bad news, we lost a kid going over the Golden Gate Bridge… Find out next blog to see who it is. Evan out! Just kidding!! Everyone is safe and sound and now getting ready for some good sleep! Tomorrow we will be heading to beautiful YOSEMITE! We are so very excited to see all the beautiful views of Northern California!

Love, The Sleepys <3
