Day 15-SLC and Bear Lake

Day 15: Salt Lake City and Bear Lake

Sneezys here! Phoebe, Matthew, Rachel, Grant, Emilio, Corbin, Carly, Ella-Chase, Zachary, and Abby, and we are coming to you from Bear Lake, Utah just outside of Garden City, Utah!

We woke up in the Deseret Sports Complex and had the treat of sleeping in until 7:15 am! We rushed to pack up our supplies and loaded the bus and van and got a good breakfast of glazed and cinnamon donuts, very yummy! After a short drive we made it to Salt Lake City, Utah, where we took guided tours through the Church of Latter-Day Saints. We were guided by lovely Mormon sisters who showed us different aspects of Mormon culture, history, and explained the intricate architecture in detail. We learned the stories of the book of Mormon, toured the Tabernacle, Conference Center, and the Assembly hall and the sisters answered questions along the way. After the two-hour tour, we crossed the Temple Square to Utah’s fabulous mall. Fun fact, this is actually Utah’s largest mall and was decorated with natural aspects such as greenery and a creek running through the center of it. At the mall many people visited the food court to get Chick-fil-a and Brooklyn style pizza. People also visited the Apple Store and Face Timed their family and friends to catch them up on all of our adventures! While the campers conquered the mall, Ellie Reuter went with the counselors to pick up a sweet treat. Ellie’s family friends own a bakery near Salt Lake City, and she graced us with delicious treats. We had an assortment of cinnamon twists, custard filled pastries, apple fritters, and glazed deserts which we all adored! We left the mall and headed off to Walmart, where we made a quick stop (and fought over the gifts from the bakery), and several people bought Crumble Cookies. After that, we went to our campsite at Bear Lake. We had a fun water balloon throwing competition that the Bashfuls won, even though the Sneezys did excellently (Rachel and Emilio carried our group). Afterwards, many people took a dip in the lake where people did chicken fights, played Taps, and dunked each other! We ate a warm and delicious dinner of grilled chicken, fries, and salad. After rushing through our duties and chores, we finally got to open our mail. Tears, laughter, and lots of candy ensued. After stuffing our bags with gifts from home, we settled down for Bear Lake. We’re ecstatic for our journey into Jackson Hole, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone tomorrow which will be full of adventures and amazing views!
